Match Preview | Peckham Cosmos

Barnes look to back up last weeks win with another this week against another new side in Peckham Cosmos.

Barnes can go top after 3 games should they win and Poplar rovers drop points but focus now is on getting some more points and building on a positive start to this season.

The manager was impressed with last weeks results and wants to take some of that into this week. “Last Sunday was great, 6 goals scored and 3 points on the board but it is now nearly a week in the past. As the old adage says, you're only as good as your last game so for us to prove ourselves as title contenders this season, we will have continue to play well and try win.”

Jacko also criticised the sloppiness at the back allowing 3 goals last weekend and wants to see his back line a bit more sharper against Peckham. “As great as the victory was, as a team wee conceded 3 sloppy goals and so training this week has been focusing on those areas that cost us the goals. The boys looked good in training and I'm confident that we can take this into the game on Sunday against our opponents who are new the league.”

With another new team up against Barnes this Sunday, it’s more of the unknown and not knowing what to expect from the opposition. “Always difficult playing a team that are new to the league, there are a lot of unknowns and much can change from pre season when clubs are trialling lots of new players. Therefore we prepare and play against Peckham like any other team and will focus on playing our football to the best of our ability which will hopefully produce lots of chances for the forwards to convert to goals and get us back to back wins.”

Injuries are slowly picking up as some come back from injury and some are starting the recovery of new injuries but with good squad depth this year a strong squad will still be available for selection come Sunday “A number of players are carrying injuries this week and unfortunately we lost winger Harry after aggregating a niggle in training. We're still waiting on the scan results for man who scored a brace in last week's game and so there will be a few late fitness tests on Sunday to determine the starting line up but once again, we have a strong and competitive squad - everyone is looking forward to getting back out there and continuing a good run!”
