Barnes Stormers will resume their 22/23 SSFL league campaign against local rivals, South West Athletic. Both clubs play at the same home ground and will be looking for the bragging rights in what will be both teams' first match in over a month following a weather-enforced winter break.
In what's been a very stop-start season so far, Barnes started to build a head of steam with a win and a draw in their last two league games but alot of rain and then an artic blast prevented them storming through December to build on those results further. Barnes will be looking to resume the league campaign with a win as they aim to start adding points to the table and climb up out of the relegation zone.
Just 1 point separates bottom club Olympique Mayonnaise, and Syndicate FC who sit in 6th place. With the bottom half of the table so close, a win for Barnes could see them storm up the table (other results pending).
It's not an easy task that awaits Barnes as they come up against a South West Athletic who have strengthened their squad quite considerably over the past couple of seasons. After the reverse fixture of this tie earlier in the season ended as a 4-0 loss to Barnes, they'll be looking to redeem themselves and give a better account in the search for more wins.
After nearly 4 weeks of very little football for the club, everyone at Barnes will be working hard in the gym and on the training pitch across multiple sessions this week in preparation for the local derby.
One half of our management duo, Jack, said; "We're hoping to extend our unbeaten run and make a positive start to 2023 by taking all 3 points. A big 3 points would help to kick start our season and get us climbing up the table. We're all looking forward to getting back to it and making 2023 a really solid year for the club!".
All spectators are welcome as we take them on this weekend. Lesssgooo Stormers!
