Match Report | Peckham Cosmos

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

Barnes remained unbeaten in their start to the season after an impressive 5-2 win against Peckham cosmos.

A strike worthy of a goal of the season award Abdul put one top bins from 25 yards out to give Barnes the lead inside 10 minutes. The midfielder picked the ball up and let fly, leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

Dominant on the ball and controlling the game Abdi just like last week was too much for their back line and won a penalty after making their defenders feet tangle and leaving the red no choice.

George, returning from injury took the resulting penalty and with no doubt on anyone’s mind it was 2-0 Barnes and we were beginning to comfortable.

Two very poor goalkeeping mistakes allowed Peckham to get back into the game. The first a close range effort saw the ball dribble under the keeper and then a long range free kick which found its way in the back of the net.

Frustrating times for Barnes who had built a healthy lead early on but went in level at the break. Substitutes were made at the break and Barnes pushed on with 3 more goals.

The first came from Conor, once again a goal of the season contender. Rhys found Conor open from a throw in and the defender smashed it from outside the box and the subsequent hit found its way into the top left corner. Too accurate for the keeper to get to.

We kicked on from there and Paul made it four as his driven effort from the right beat the keeper with ice and power and gave Barnes that lead again that they truly needed.

Then we made it 5 and we couldn’t leave off Nuno. 5 in 3 for the forward now and his strength and power was too much for the back line and he sealed the deal as Barnes made it 7 points from 9.

A big win and onto next week in the cup now.
