Barnes host Syndicate FC in their next SSFL Divison 7 league match as they hope to make it 3 wins from 3 games in 2022 in this derby day game.
Syndicate are a familiar foe, a team that Barnes have faced numerous times over the past few seasons. Although the record books have been wiped due to covid, the players at Barnes will remember a famous 1-0 win in the cup last season and some of the players who transferred from former clubs will remember further back to a famous 5-1 win over Syndicate. However it is this seasons' 2-2 draw with our opposition that will be fresh in the minds of the Stormers. Conceding a last minute equaliser to Syndicate was a painful pill to swallow and both teams will be keen to get the edge on their opponents this week.
Barnes go into this game on the back of 2 consecutive league wins but will be very aware that they have been conceding goals, something that Jacko is keen to address, "We've conceded 5 goals in the last 2 games, it's too many. We've been fantastic in scoring goals but we need to make it easier on ourselves and reduce the goals we concede to ease pressure on ourselves. It'd also help the GD for the league table!".
Syndicate on the other hand go into this game after a couple of losses in two different cup competitions and will be hungry to continue their league campaign where they left off in 2021 after that bitter disappointment. "There's an old saying there's nothing more dangerous than a wounded tiger and I think that's apt here, they'll be disappointed after losing in the cup and keen to hurt us in the league. We're going to be just as hungry though to get the bragging rights after a draw in our last visit to their place and fighting to move on up the table" said Jacko.
With Barnes in 7th place and 3 games in hand over 5th placed Syndicate, this is a real opportunity for the club to add 3 points and start storming up the table. But Jacko is keen not to look too far above in the table "I've been talking to the boys and one thing is clear amongst the squad, we take one game at a time. We need to earn the right to win and compete with the best and the only way we do that is with hard work and good football. And of that I'm sure we'll see plenty of on Sunday!".
