Barnes Stormers Defender Determined Mental Health Not To Be Left Back In The Dark Ages

Into February and another month of no football but the good work of Barnes Stormers FC and their charity fundraising continues! This month sees left back Alfie Cooper pick up a running based charity fundraiser for Mind, that will see him run 27 miles over 27 days.

It’s a charity that Alfie says means alot to him; “I’m running for Mind charity which supports people with mental health issues, not for me but to help the people I love around me who I have seen suffer in silence and not open up. I’ve seen people’s lives change because of mental health and I want to run for the people who need help and show people that there are people who are always looking out for them. Sometimes all you need is a friend, and I want to be that friend, whoever you are”.

Team mate Tom Jackson said; "I'm really proud of Alfie for starting this fundraising, it's a big challenge for him in terms of the running but also the amount of money he's trying to raise for such a brilliant charity - if his on the pitch mindset is anything to go by then I have no doubt he will smash both these targets!".

Mind provides a national voice and local support for anybody experiencing a mental health problem. Mind campaigns against discrimination, fight for better services, and offer information and support. By taking part in 27 27 Alfie is raising awareness of student mental health and helping the charity be there for the 27% of us who report a mental health problem while at university.

Everyone at the club wishes Alfie good luck on his fundraiser and he already has the backing of several teammates in the form of donations. If you’d like to donate to Alfie’s fundraiser, you can do so here.
